PHPBenelux Meeting November 2010
Our monthly meeting is taken place in The Netherlands this month, and in the dead center of it as well! Centrally located Amersfoort will host the November meeting on Thursday 25 November at the Enrise offices.
During this meeting we again have two different talks by two different speakers. Hosts Enrise provide Sjors de Valk, who in is talk will be speaking about the use of iterators. He will be doing his talk Uncovering Iterators:
Remember those nerdy kids in high school? Pale looks, odd haircuts, quirky behavior? A popularity rating of minus infinity and decidedly uncool? Remarkably, nerds have a striking resemblance to PHP's iterators.
Every skillful programmer is able to declaim the PHP manual from memory. Every programmer can strpbrk() a string, knows the difference between array_map() and array_walk() and has what it takes to serialize an object. Yet few programmers - but an obscure subset - have heard of the FilterIterator and LimitIterator. Even fewer know how to apply the RecursiveDirectoryIterator and RegexIterator. And what's up with that InfiniteIterator?
This talk aims to change that. Just like the nerds from school, iterators can be fun, smart and cool once you get to know them. We'll take an in-depth look at their inner workings, pinpoint their strengths and weaknesses and investigate whether their performance holds up.
Stefan Koopmanschap will offer a brand new talk for this meeting; Git for Subversion Users:
With the move of many big PHP open source projects to Git (and Github), PHP users worldwide are now exposed to a new version control system that is very different from good old Subversion. In this talk, the concepts of Git are explained to those not yet converted to Git. The benefits of Git over Subversion will be discussed as well as how to use Git successfully for open source projects but also for your own projects.
Everyone is welcome to join us on the 25th from 7PM. First talk starts at 7:30PM. After the two speakers, there will be the option to enjoy a drink and talk to your fellow developers for some networking, framework discussions, editor wars or simple chit-chat.
Want to come? Register here to let us know you're coming, and make sure to also show off that you're coming on joind.in.
