Monthly Meetup – May 2016

All the data in the world is useless without good visualization. If only there was a way to create amazing dynamic visualizations in your browser with just a few lines of code. Oh wait…there is! This month’s talk is “Introduction to D3”, presented by the amazing Nadieh Bremer.

Thanks to our friends at Infi, we’ll have food, drinks and a great space to hang out! There’ll also be an update on the recently announced DomCode 2016 conference  and the Utrecht Tech Calendar.

19:00 – Welcome with food & drinks
19:30 – Main Talk: Introduction to D3
20:30 – Raffle & News
20:35 – Social!

Main Talk – Introduction to D3
D3 has taken over the world of online (interactive) data visualization. Strangely, it is not a charting library, but that is perhaps one of the reasons it works so well. During my talk I’d like to show you a small piece of the enormous set of possibilities that you can create with D3 through showcasing a few of my personal projects. But during most of the talk I’ll be giving an introduction to creating visualizations with D3. Hopefully by the end I’ve managed to convince you how easy it is to create something fun and interactive.

Speaker – Nadieh Bremer
Nadieh started out as an Astronomer before joining Deloitte Consulting as a data scientist. A year ago she finally discovered that she loved the visualization of the data and insights even more than the analysis itself. Since then, she has been spending most of her evening and weekend hours reading about best practices, creating projects, and sharing lessons learned on her personal blog, VisualCinnamon. She is now working for Adyen, a payment service provider based in Amsterdam, where she works on both data visualizations and analytics. Her favorite data visualizations border on the data art side while still conveying insights.
