Monthly Meetup – November 2017

Winter might be coming but we’re countering it with a double shot of awesomesomeness. That’s right, we’ve got two speakers this month: Freek Van der Herten will build serious dashboards using his stack of choice and Frederick Vanbrabant will be showing us how we can use blockchain for solving real world problems (i.e. dogecoin).

With food, drink and space provided by our newest sponsor Caesar Experts, it’s time to bundle up and head for the meetup!

Schedule

19:30 – Welcome
19:35 – Talk: Building a dashboard with Laravel, Vue and Pusher
20:05 – Talk: Let’s solve real world problems with blockchain
20:25 – Raffle & News
20:30 – Social!

Talk: Building a dashboard with Laravel, Vue and Pusher
On the wall mounted TV in our office a dashboard is displayed. At a glance we can see what the current tasks for each member of our team are, which important events are coming up, which music is playing, … and much more.

In this talk I’ll explain how we leveraged both Laravel and Vue to build the dashboard. After demonstrating the dashboard itself we’ll take a deep dive in the code. We’ll take a look at the entire flow: the grid system, how events are broadcasted using Pusher, some cool Vue mixins and much more. After this talk you’ll be able to setup your own dashboard using our open sourced code.

Speaker: Freek Van der Herten (@maybefrederick)

Talk: Let’s solve real world problems with blockchain
Blockchain is quickly becoming the buzzword of the year, but people tend to only link it to cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin. But let’s take a look at some other real world problems we can solve with this technology. In this talk we will take a look at how this technology works and delve into some examples for countering blood diamonds and updating passports.

Speaker: Frederick Vanbrabant (@maybefrederick)
Frederick is a less-than-30-year-old developer from Antwerp with a passion for APIs and everything that surrounds them. He works as a Software Engineer at madewithlove and is co-organiser of PHPAntwerp.
